Iraq vs Syria: Preview and Predictions
Iraq vs Syria
International – Friendly
Date: Tuesday, 27 March 2018
Kick-Off at 18:00 UK
Venue: Merkur Arena (Graz)
Iraq have been in great form and they convincingly topped the Asian Qualifiers Group A to earn their spot in the World Cup, building on it and extending an 11-game unbeaten streak through five friendly outings since September. They’ve beaten Panama and Venezuela late in 2017 and built on it against Sierra Leone in a 4-0 win earlier in March, as they meet Syria at Merkur Arena in Graz looking to build on the consistency.
Syria will be no easy side to beat but we’ve seen them in an unpredictable spell of form and we don’t feel they have what it takes to keep up with the rivals at this point. They’ve beaten Central African Republic 3-0 and are yet to meet Tanzania but it’s fair to say that clash against Carlos Queiroz’ men will be much more of a challenge!
Team Melli have been rock-solid defensively and rarely concede goals, showing off great character at most crucial times across competitions. They will now be very motivated to outclass the struggling rivals, who have high hopes of bouncing back ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers in September, which obviously promises another great display in a narrow contest looming.
Iraq vs Syria: Head-to-head
Interestingly, this will be the first head-to-head encounter for the sides and it comes at a better time for the Asian rivals.
Iraq are currently rated 33rd on FIFA World Ranking and Syria come 60th.
Both sides rarely score or concede many goals, rather basing their success on solid defensive displays.
Iraq vs Syria: Prediction
We will now back Iraq to bag a win in Graz and stick our necks out for the bet at 2.00, which seems great value at the moment.
Under 2.5 goals FT shapes to be the best way to go about the market, though, and comes at 1.57!
